100 Changemakers for 100 days of BFRB Awareness
I’m a licensed psychotherapist in San Diego, California, and my practice has specialized in treating Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors since 2008. I had a family member struggling with a BFRB and I was appalled at the lack of understanding and resources for her recovery. There was barely a name for it, let alone understanding of its treatment. When I opened my private practice, I was determined to make a difference in BFRB awareness and treatment. I did not anticipate that the vast majority of my clients would be people dealing with chronic skin picking, hair pulling, nail biting, and all the rest. In 2010 I started a free support group for people with BFRBs, spoke in the community, and created a number of educational videos. 16 years later, I am proud to be a BFRB Changemaker and see all the positive changes that all of us working together have brought about.

Support BFRB Changemakers
BFRB Changemakers supports BFRB healing through community. Our mission is 3-fold:
- raise awareness of debilitating conditions of Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) such as compulsive hair pulling (trichtotillomania), nail biting (onychophagia), and skin picking (dermatillomania),
- increase and improve access to care, and
- advance community recovery.
Through the BFRB Changemakers Training Academy we strive to increase access to care by offering Continuing Education training to new and seasoned mental health treatment professionals.
BFRB Changemakers is a 501c3 non-profit (EIN #93-1544492). Please make a donation to support these efforts!
